Florida Vacation Tips

Simple, common-sense planning will help you make the most
of your stay in Florida. Many first-time visitors have
some common questions and concerns regarding a stay in the
Sunshine State. Here are five planning tips that answer
most people's questions in advance.
1. Travel light. Don't bring unnecessary clothing or other
items. If you're spending most of your time at the beach,
swim gear and a couple of outfits for evenings indoors are
all that you need. If you're doing other kinds of outdoor
activities, check into the latest advancements in warm-
weather wear that you can hand-wash nightly and will
be ready-to-wear by morning. Minimal luggage and valuables
eliminate much of your logistical and security worries.
2. Plan on remaining healthy! Bring sun protection to avoid
sunburn and other heat-related illnesses. Bring Water-
safety gear for those who are very young or very weak
swimmers. Bring medications, bandages, ointments, and such
for minor illnesses and injuries.
3. Keep to a schedule. Yes, you can be flexible, but
planning ahead provides greater assurance that you'll
get to do and see everything that you want to do and see.
Make sure you know where the places are that you're going,
what times those places are open, and what the costs are
for going to those places.
4. Plan indoor activities to back up your outdoor plans.
Yes, you're going to Florida because of what it has to
offer outside, but the weather can change quickly here
just as it can almost anywhere. Rain is a year-round
occurrence, and it tends to put a "damper" on trips to
beaches, theme parks, and the like. At those times, having
a "plan B" for indoor fun is a good idea.
5. Wildfires are common in northern Florida, so check
to see if there are any and how they'll affect your plans.
The warm, humid climate is quite hospitable to a host of
critters that can make you miserable if you don't plan
on how to deal with them in advance. In other words,
prepare for dealing with every conceivable possibility for
this part of the country.
Florida is a great place to visit for a vacation. To make
it even more enjoyable and meaningful, plan your trip
carefully and well in advance.
